Often described as “The Taj Mahal of the South,” this one-of-a-kind escape was created to transport you into the splendor of faraway lands like India and Morocco — all without leaving the USA. Hidden among the trees beside a gentle creek, The Flying Carpet offers the perfect balance of exotic elegance and Southern tranquility. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a storybook world where every detail has been crafted for wonder, romance, and rest.

Meet the Hosts
Jeff & Cherisa Lewis
The dream behind The Flying Carpet began with Jeff and Cherisa Lewis, a husband-and-wife team with a shared love for design, travel, and heartfelt hospitality. Together for over 26 years, they’ve spent decades visiting historic homes and bed-and-breakfasts, learning, dreaming, and planning what would one day become their own signature retreat.
Their journey started with a luxury farmhouse cottage along Copperas Creek — a project so loved by guests that it inspired their next vision: a treehouse unlike any other. What began as a simple idea quickly transformed when Jeff, a skilled builder and real estate investor, discovered a collection of antique Indian doors and windows. From there, the couple’s creativity took flight. Jeff reimagined the architecture, and Cherisa brought the space to life with authentic Moroccan and Indian décor — from silk saris and carved wood panels to golden lanterns and velvet bedding.
Cherisa calls The Flying Carpet “an experience more than anything.” Every inch reflects their passion for detail and their heart for people. They’ve poured their souls into creating not just a stunning space, but a sanctuary where guests can rest, reconnect, and feel transported to another world.
Through each stay, Jeff and Cherisa share their greatest joy — making others feel at home while offering something truly magical. As Cherisa says, “We’ve tried to make guests feel like they’re stepping into another country. It’s our way of bringing a little culture, beauty, and romance to Cullman.”
